New Transatlanticism and Its Impact on Relations between the European Union and Russia

Abstract

Despite the fact that the European Union and Russia have common interests in terms of economic issues, their distinct identities and bad memories have led to a deep distrust between them. This has prevented them from building an institutionalized, well-defined and sustainable relationship. Meanwhile, the U.S. has always played a determining role in Russia-EU relations. This article tries to examine the impact of a likely new trend of transatlanticism on relations between Russia and the EU
