A Constructivist View on Gas Relations between Russia of the EU

Abstract

Gas relations between Russia and the EU as major producer and consumer of natural gas in the world could be analyzed within the fixed structures of "securitized energy" and "shortage". Securitized energy is the result of uncertainties existing in bilateral energy interactions between Russia and the EU, and shortage constructs, the discourses of "constant domination over resources" and "competitive market". Within these structures, energy discourses of the EU including supply security, market, enviroment sustainability, and social responsibility as well as Russia′s energy discourses comprising demand security, dowinations over nesources, sustainability and social responsibility play their relevant roles.
